~sloppy identity~
an faq/teaser/pep-talk for me
what is sloppy identity (the term)?
sloppy identity is a linguistics term that explains who/what a pronoun refers to in a particular kind of grammatical construction (wikipedia has some nice examples). I studied linguistics in college and always liked the term. As I’ve gotten older, I feel I’ve grown into the term, like a sweater that used to be too too big and is now just too big enough.
how does that relate to “here”?
It might not, directly. I think about language a lot, so that will likely make an appearance as it does in most of my writing. But, I like the double meaning of the phrase. Outside of the linguistics context, “sloppy identity” feels like a good description for myself, as a person with my hands and heart indefinitely in too many projects. I often feel like a slightly different version of this person while working on any one project. I’m sure you can relate~
